Get to know your vet, Part III: Dr. Evans!

What's your favorite part of being a veterinarian?

Well, the obvious answer is working with animals every day!  To me I think the best part is supporting the human-animal bond by trying to provide the best care possible for creatures that cannot speak for themselves, and helping owners feel that they understand and are providing the best care they can for their pets.  Even on the bad days I go home with some sense of fulfillment that I am helping people and animals in ways they cannot on their own.

What's your least favorite?

I feel like I should say euthanasia, but many times ending the suffering of an animal comes with some sense of relief.  But the fact that finances can become a factor in how we are able to treat animals is never easy to accept.  Juggling explaining diseases, necessary diagnostics and treatments, along with the cost of care, and then trying to figure out how to best treat animals given each owner's financial situation is by far the worst part of my day.  If I could create a Utopia, free veterinary care would be available for all animals.

What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Anything relaxing!  Some days that means laying on the couch binge-watching TV or reading, other days it means Stand-up paddle boarding, walking on the beach, going for a run or bike ride, or gardening.

What is your favorite sports team?

Ummm...I can't even think of a team to name!

What is your favorite snack?

Potato chips and dip... it's like my Kryptonite!

You are banished to a deserted island and can only take three things with you, what would they be?

My cats (yeah, I'm somewhat of a crazy cat lady), a hammock, and I guess something reasonable like a Multi-purpose tool

What is the coolest thing you've ever done?

When I graduated from Undergraduate college one of my friends and I spent 2 months driving across the country.  All we had was a campground directory, a road atlas, and a few $100.  It was an amazing trip that I'd love to do again.

What's currently at the top of your bucket-list?

To start composting for my garden.  Pretty simple, but it's something I've wanted to do for years and just never seem to get around to it.  If I can get some of the easy things out of the way then maybe I can move down the list to the more exciting things, like hiking to Everest base camp!

If you could be any animal, which would you choose? and why?

A Lion.  They are beautiful, powerful, respected creatures but also very lazy and love to just lounge in the warm sun :)
